Who runs this site
Devan Hemmings, a builder in Forestville, California.
Devan has spent over 20 years in the trades: building, landscaping, and mapping properties for designers and architects.
He runs Home Ready Sonoma, which does in-person wildfire readiness plans in Sonoma County.
He started Home Ready California for everyone else in the state. Check where your home stands. Then find someone good to do the work.
How we pick pros
- We check the state contractor license (CSLB) when the work needs one.
- We read their reviews.
- We ask about their fire-safe work: vents, the first 5 feet, defensible space.
- We send each request to one pro, so they take it seriously.
We say "vetted", not "guaranteed". Get a written price before work starts.
How this site makes money
Right now it doesn't.
Later, pros may pay to be part of the network. You never pay us, and it never changes what you pay a pro.
How we check facts
Every rule and number on this site names its source, with a date.
When a rule changes, we update the page.
